I was born in Scranton, PA in 1975 and have resided in Northeast PA for my entire life. I've been interested in drawing, cartooning, painting, music and writing as long as I can remember. I've been an active musician since the age of 12. Throughout high school and college I split my focus between music and art in what felt like a separation or division of the two as separate entities - where I would eventually have to make a choice between the two - to pursue whole heartedly one or the other. I've learned about myself that I need both and will continue to focus on both. For me painting and music are a catalyst and facilitator, each for the other. They are connected and relate very much to one another as it pertains to my work as a whole.
I graduated from Marywood University in 2001 with a BFA in Painting. I had some really incredible teachers and mentors that impacted me substantially. I very much respect them, their work and their teachings. I also attended the Colley studio of fine art in Scranton PA. It was an amazing and fulfilling experience.
Living only 2 1/2 hours outside of New York city, I've spent much time there visiting and studying the paintings at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney, and many of the contemporary galleries. I've shown extensively in group and solo exhibitions from 1997 to 2001 and started showing again in October 2009. I made drawings, paintings, and sculptures during that time in between, but wasn't necessarily happy with the work I was making until about January of 2009.
As life goes I've been through some really messed up stuff and have been a part of some real beauty throughout and it really, really impacts how, why, and when i work. So much of the day to day is extracted out of me into my work. There will be events that inspire me instantly to start working. And there are times when something inspires me years later - laying dormant until there is a catalyst. But it all comes out at some point, somehow.
